Abstract

The aim of this research project is to design and simulate a motorized pediatric gait trainer which is robotic assisted that could improve, maintain, and correct the gait pattern and body posture of paediatric patients. The gait trainers are designed to be affordable, with satisfactory quality, and able to carry basic gait training at home. While in this research project, this design is specifically aimed for children with anesomelia, also known as Leg Length Discrepancy (LLD), which is describing a condition where one leg is shorter than the other. The necessity of this research will be discussed with several referenced research papers. The simulation model will be designed, simulated, and finally demonstrate the working mechanism of the gait trainer with several engineering software, and hardware at the end of the project. The software planned to be used including Solidworks 2020 as the 3D model designing and simulation, CES EduPack 2018 for the selection of material and process, and Arduino IDE for program code writing and debugging. While hardware included Arduino Uno controller board as the main controller, several sensors for example MPU6050 gyroscope sensor and modified motor built-in potentiometer to create the channel of feedback and control between user and the gait trainer to realize the robotic assistance during gait training. Robotic assisted gait trainers would provide a systematic and effective gait training that are able to help LLD paediatric patients to practice for proper gait pattern, while at the same time prevent the development of bad body posture, which is the intended motive for this research.
