Abstract

This paper examines the effect of board gender diversity and firm’s characteristics on firm performance in six selected Asia Pacific countries. The study employs top 40 public listed companies in six selected Asia Pacific countries, including Taiwan, Thailand, Malaysia, Japan, Hong Kong and South Korea, based on local current market capitalization. This research study covers 10 years from 2011 to 2020. In this study, eight models were tested (1) The first and second models look at the relationship in separated countries, (2) the third and fourth models look at the relationship in Asia Pacific developing countries, (3) the fifth and sixth models look at the relationship in Asia Pacific developed countries, (4) the seventh and eighth models look at the relationship in selected Asia Pacific countries as a whole. In selected Asia Pacific countries, this study found substantial correlations between board gender diversity and firms’ characteristics on firm performance. By taking into account the effect of board gender diversity on firm performance, the findings imply that corporate governance is vital for financial performance in the Asia Pacific area.
