Abstract

Employees are an important part of every organisation, and their performance is crucial to the company’s success. Despite the annual programme hosted by the Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) to promote Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology among construction practitioners, as well as numerous training systems or programmes, Malaysia is still dominated by traditional processes, labour costs continue to rise, projects are severely delayed due to poor employee performance, and the sector is constantly scrutinised. In the construction sector, poor employee performance has a significant influence on serious issues such as project delays, low profit margins, poor quality work, cost overruns, and conflicts. Furthermore, it will have a detrimental effect on the economy’s gross domestic product (GDP), international competitiveness, inflationary pressure, social conflicts, and Malaysia’s development. As a result, it is critical to investigate the elements that influence employee performance in the construction industry. According to the existing literature on employee performance, empirical research on the relationship between work from home, work-life balance, self-efficacy, work motivation, work stress, and job satisfaction and employee performance, moderated by employee age, is sparse. As a result, the objectives of this paper are to look at the relationship between work from home, work-life balance, self-efficacy, work motivation, work stress, job satisfaction, and employee performance, and are moderated by the age of the employees. The Job Demands-Resources model and Socioemotional Selectivity Theory are used as theoretical support for the development of the conceptual framework. The direct and indirect relationships between work from home, work-life balance, selfefficacy, work motivation, work stress, job satisfaction, and employee performance are investigated in this study. In addition, this study also investigates employee age as a moderator in the relationship between work from home and employee performance. A total of 296 samples were gathered using an online self-administered questionnaire survey to meet the research objectives, and the data was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Partial Least Square – Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM). All of the direct relationships between work from home, worklife balance, self-efficacy, work motivation, work stress, job satisfaction, and employee performance are significantly supported by the statistical data. The mediation relationship of job satisfaction between work from home and employee performance is significantly supported for indirect relationships. However, employee age was found to have no moderation effect towards the relationship between work from home and employee performance. The findings of this study add to theoretical and managerial implications by demonstrating the factors that influence employee performance. At the conclusion of the study, various limitations of the study are identified, as well as recommendations for further research into the topic of employee performance.
