Abstract

Malaysia’s timber industry is a relatively newbusiness. Malaysia’s timber industries produce sawn timber, plywood, builders’ carpentry, and furniture, among other wood-based processing materials and products. The goal of this industrial project is to determine the efficieny of the present log processing facility. The wood processing sector in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan, is investigated. Several theories are investigated in order to analyse the existing processing facility in the timber industry, and Equation Based Costing Method is selected to use in the framework. The efficiency index in terms of cost and time is then calculated using a framework. Delmia software is also learned and researched. The data is then gathered and entered into the framework, which calculates the production costs and profit for a certain plank size in each month. Efficiency is used to calculate a plank’s profit and production cost. The profit of the seller is then compared to the profit from the calculations to get the percentage difference. Meanwhile, processing time and worker actions are entered into the framework to determine the average length of time needed at each station. Efficiency is calculated as the average time taken by workers to deal with each log at each station. Aside from that, the graph reveals the break even figure for a certain plank size. Finally, the current production layout is designed using Delmia software. The simulation is then run to identify bottleneck scenarios. These bottleneck instances are used to quantify the percentage of performance lost.
