Abstract

A flanged bearing housing with one center hole and two sides holes that normally are produced with casting process. For the surface finishing purpose, generally the two curvature surfaces at the end of the bearing housing need to further touch up by milling. In industry, if each of the curvature surfaces are to be milled one by one, the set up time to align the part will be very long. This project is to design a fixture which is flexible enough so that set up only needs to be done once and parts can be easily loaded for the milling process at both end. The fixture may help to reduce the time taken to set up each of the individual parts. Each parts of the prototype has been design by using AutoCAD to make sure every parts is in correct dimension and in alligned positioned. Flanged bearing housing and positioning bed were produced using 3D printer while base plate, bush and washer were produced using milling machine, lathe machine, drilling machine and tap. Part program has been written to mill the two end curvature surfaces and tested with MTS simulation software. The fixture is then loaded on the CNC machine and the part program generated was transferred to the CNC machine for testing. The tool path shown the cutter moved at the contour as shown in the simulation result. This has proven the fixture only need to be set up once on the machine and the flanged bearing housing can be loaded easily without repeating the set up process. The assembly parts of the prototype are shown in this report
