Abstract

Disc cutter is a tools normally use to cutting metal in industry with 14” cutting disc. It can cut up to 100mm thickness of work piece. But the disc cutter may be relatively costly. When the industry is targeting some much smaller sizes of pipe or rod, this kind of huge disc cutter may be oversize. In this project, a portable disc cutter is developed with portable grinder for both manual cutting or semi-auto cutting. This kind of portable disc cutter can used to target some small dimension pipe or rod. It also designed with a clamp system to prevent the work piece moving. The work piece can be clamp at perpendicular of 45° with the cutting blade. In order to perform semi-auto cutting process, pneumatic system was installed to start or stop the cutting process. SolidWorks was used as design software in this project. Standard components will be selected and purchase while other customized parts will be machined. A prototype was built and tested with various sizes of metal rods. The prototype was also tested in cutting perpendicular and 45° angle
