Abstract

Plant watering system or also known as plant irrigation system in the agriculture industry is a very useful product helping the farmers to water the plant regardless of the type of the crop. However, the plant irrigation system which is widely use nowadays are developed mainly for large scale watering and mostly works on simple machines such as timers and lack of feedback mechanism. In the current market, there is very limited product which can help human to monitor and water their indoor plant for them. Hence the objective of this project to develop a system of automatic plant watering and monitoring system using 3D printed materials and with the electronic components supported by Arduino based microcontroller. The benefits of using an Arduino microcontroller is not only it is able to water the plant, but it is able to provide feedback mechanism such as the surrounding temperature and humidity. By using these data, the user may be able to predict the weather for today. This project is carried out with the help of Arduino IDE and Blynk software. Arduino IDE is a native software developed by Arduino for coding the microcontroller based on the C/C++ programming language. Due to the simple environment, Arduino is considered relatively easy for beginners to start for coding. Besides that, Blynk which is an Internet of Things platform which is specifically developed for controlling microcontroller from our smartphone wirelessly. The objectives for the automated plant watering and monitoring system has been achieved as well as successfully designed, fabricated, and tested with test results collected when conducting tests. These documentations are crucial for anyone in the future who wish to continue to modify and improve or innovate a new plant care system based on the current automated plant watering and monitoring system
