Abstract

In today’s globalized world, advancement in technology has made our life more convenient by giving us with high level of intelligence through the invention of different technology. Nevertheless, every technological innovation contains the potential of hidden threats. One of the major threat is deteriorating performance which mainly caused by overheating. Overheating causes damage to the component which will shorten the life span and deterioration in efficiency of the components. Hence, this issue has led to birth of many different cooling methods to expel the heat generated by the component. However, without automated cooling system, heat generated component may become overheated and thus damages the component. It is ineffective to keep on manually monitoring the temperature of the components at the recommended operation temperature ranges as this will require consistence monitoring. Therefore, the main objective of this project is to develop an automated fan cooling system using the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) for a component which will aid in protecting it from overheating by means of alarm and buzzer through a temperature sensor. The PLC will be programme using Ladder Diagram (LD) and it will be programme in such a way that when the thermistor has reached certain temperature, the fan motor will be turned on. People that are around the system will also be notify on the current situations with alarm light and buzzer being turned on. Besides, the HMI will be connected to the PLC to show the current status of the outputs and allows the users to interact with the control process. To further improve adaptability and flexibility of the control process, a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system with an protocol Open Platform Communication Unified Architecture (OPC UA) based solution is used for remote controlling and monitoring the working process of the fan cooling system
