Abstract
As digitalisation takes root and customer expectations shifted, the logistics industry is entering an era of unparalleled transformation. The logistics new entrants are also shaking up the sector, whether they be a start-ups or industrial customers and suppliers. The Malaysia logistics companies have run into difficulties, especially as the export and the import trade keep increasing, but development has still failed to keep it track with a strong growth of trade. The purpose of this research is to investigate the factors affecting and influencing the organisational performance of new start-up logistics enterprises in Malaysia. Most of the previous studies mainly focused on factors affecting the organisational performance of the company's sales growth, the ability to increase the market share, the customer retention rate, and its overall return on investment. There is a lack of studies regarding strategic infrastructure development in Malaysia's logistics industry. Therefore, this study is to fill the gap by analysing strategic infrastructure development and organisational performance. In addition, this research fills the gap through the relationship between strategic infrastructure development, organisational culture, human asset specificity, and organisational performance in Malaysia’s logistics industry by using the resource-based view (RBV) theory. This research investigates the direct and indirect relationship between strategic infrastructure development, government support policy, organisational culture, human asset specificity, and organisational performance. To carry out the research objectives, 320 samples were gathered via an online self-administered questionnaire survey and this research adopts Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) to evaluate the data gathered. The findings of this research revealed that strategic infrastructure development, organisational culture, human asset specificity, and organisational performance are found to be the factors affecting the organisational performance of the Malaysian logistics industry. However, the findings also showed that the government support policy does not contribute a significant moderating effect on the relationship between strategic infrastructure development and human asset specificity. With the findings of this study, this study provides theoretical and managerial implications by demonstrating that there is a significant relationship between strategic infrastructure development, organisational culture, and human asset specificity towards organisational performance. The research concludes with some limitations and recommendations for future studies to better investigate the understanding of the organisational performance in the logistics industry.
