Emotional intelligence incorporates the significant aspect of interpersonal and intrapersonal relationship, moods, feelings, skills in handling stress and adaptability that influence the academic performance of students. In shaping a student’s excellence, emotional dimension is very important. Many studies in the past have shown that academic performance is impaired by emotional intelligence. This research was therefore carried out with the goal of exploring the influence of emotional intelligence on the academic performance with the moderating effects of covid-19 pandemic on the relationship between emotional intelligence and academic performance among undergraduate students in Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TARUC). Via a snowballing and networking strategy, an online Google form survey successfully obtained 309 accessible respondents from various faculties and age group. Toanalyse the correlation and strength of the relationship, as well as the prediction between the emotional intelligence attributes and their effect on academic performance, statistical analyses such as Pearson correlation, ANOVA and standard multiple regression were used. The findings showed a positive correlation on two of the five principles that is empathy and self-awareness. As for the prediction of emotional intelligence constructs on academic performance, only self-awareness and emotional management has positive relationship. The covid-19 pandemic on the other hand, has no impact on the relationship between aspects of emotional intelligence and participant’s academic performance. In addition, limitations and directions for future research are also discussed within the project.
