Abstract

As the sports industry rises, the number of student-athletes rises. However, they do not have access to sports-specific equipment which trains their athleticism. With this, the purpose of this project is to develop a sports training equipment; specifically for training the vertical jump height; which is affordable and portable for student-athletes to carry around. Research on products available on the market was conducted and their qualities and principles were implemented into the prototype’s design using cheaper alternatives to their materials. The tension of bands were measured using a luggage scale and its effects on jump height were also investigated by conducting a vertical jump test with the final prototype. It was conducted where one condition uses arm resistance while the other does not - the leg resistance is increased and are the same for both cases. From the test conducted, it was found that the average vertical jump height is 46.88±3.332< when ther is no arm resistance (NAR) while the average vertical jump height is 44.60 ± 3.642< when there is arm resistance (AR). This proves that the resistance put on the arms also affects the vertical jump height thus proving that the prototype works. A prototype, which trains an individual’s jump height, that costs 87.06% cheaper compared to the Explosive Power Jumper, 85.07% cheaper than the Pro Power Jumper and 99.74% cheaper than the VertiMax V8 and is portable was successfully designed.
