Abstract

In this study, the performance of ball nose tool during thr milling had been studied. The objective of this research is to study the effect of tool wear based on the machining parameter in machining STAVAX ESR materials. The 2-flutes ball nose is a 6mm diameter end milling cutting tool with carbide coating. The ball nose were used to mill the STAVAX workpiece with 3 different width of cut which is 0.07mm, 0.10mm and 0.13mm. The material of the workpiece used in this project is STAVAX ESR with the dimension 150mm length and 80mm width. The constant machining parameters is 0.08mm in depth of cut, 11,000RPM in spindle speed and 3,000mm/min in feed rate. Each tool was run maximum 80m distance travel. The tool wear was observed and measured by using DinoLite microscope. In conclusion, the flank wear is observed that it was increased when width of cut increased.
