Abstract

In this project, a multi-sensor data collection system with IoT gateway was designed and developed. With the use of SIMATIC IOT2050 gateway and SIMATIC IOT2000 Input/Output module, the data can be collected from multiple sensors such as infrared sensor, inductive sensor and DC communication module. The communication between sensors and gateway is established by various types of port such as serial port and General Purpose Input/Output (GPIO). This project is implemented to address the challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) during the process of adoption of Industry 4.0. The project aims to establish seamless communication between multiple sensors and an IoT gateway, interpret the sensed data, and create a user-friendly data visualisation dashboard using Node-Red. This enabled real time data collection for further analysis and improved decision-making for SMEs. A prototype is developed to serve as a reference of the proposed system.
