Abstract

As the literature mostly reveals basic psychological needs as the consequences of job crafting behaviour, this study examined the predictors of job crafting both at the organisational level (organisation-based self-esteem) and individual level (employee readiness for change, person-job-fit). This study tests the relationship between employee readiness for change, person-job-fit and organisation-based self-esteem on job crafting. It also examines the moderating effect of high performance human resource practices and mediating effect of perceived opportunity to craft on these relationships. The data were collected via an online self-administered questionnaire survey from 408 apparel retail employees who working in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. The data obtained are analysed through Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) and Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS). Overall, the findings showed that person-job-fit and organisation-based self-esteem positively affected job crafting behaviour. Perceived opportunity to craft had mediating effect on the relationship between organisation-based self-esteem and job crafting behaviour. However, the effect of employee readiness for change on job crafting behaviour was found to be statistically insignificant and the moderating effect of high performance human resource practices on this relationship was not statistically significant. The results verify the theoretical framework and have implications for both research and practice. The research concludes with some limitations and recommendations for future studies to better understanding of job crafting from different dimension.
