Abstract
The purpose of this research is to examine the association between four-dimensional emotional intelligence and innovative work behaviour under the mediating role of tacit and explicit knowledge-sharing behaviour as well as the moderating influence of organisational innovation climate. A quantitative method was adopted and a total of 390 usable questionnaires were collected from employees of Malaysian financial institutions. The hypotheses were tested using structural equation modelling in SmartPLS. The results revealed that the use of emotion and the regulation of emotion have a significant positive impact on tacit and explicit knowledge-sharing behaviour, whereas others-emotion appraisal had a significant positive impact on tacit knowledge-sharing behaviour. Moreover, tacit and explicit knowledge-sharing behaviour was proved to have a significant positive relationship with innovative work behaviour. The study further showed that the relationship between the use of emotion, regulation of emotion, and innovative work behaviour was partially mediated by tacit and explicit knowledge-sharing behaviour. Interestingly, the self-emotion appraisal is having a negative significant relationship with tacit and explicit knowledge-sharing behaviour, resulting in negative mediating effect of explicit knowledge-sharing behaviour on the association between self-emotion appraisal and innovative work behaviour. In addition, organisational innovation climate was found no moderation effect on the association between tacit and explicit knowledge-sharing behaviour and innovative work behaviour. This research provides insights to human resources management and practitioners by establishing emotionally related training, recruiting emotionally intelligent candidates using integrated tests, and facilitating a platform for knowledge exchange that can motivate innovative work behaviour among employees. This research provides a comprehensive view and sheds new light on the financial institutions in stimulating innovative work behaviour through tacit and explicit knowledge-sharing behaviour, as well as organisational innovation climate.
