Abstract

This qualitative research study delves deep into the intricate realm of sustainability perception among both undergraduate and postgraduate students within the hallowed halls of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Sustainability, a multifaceted and vital concept, is meticulously dissected into four distinct dimensions: Economic, Environmental, Social, and Governance. The research approach employed a harmonious blend of semi-structured interviews and thoughtfully designed semi-structured questionnaires to elegantly collect responses and data, ensuring a comprehensive exploration of the subject. Thematic analysis, meticulously executed with the aid of MaxQDA software, forms the cornerstone of this research. This approach illuminates the intricate patterns and narratives woven within the collected data, revealing the profound depths of how students perceive sustainability within these dimensions. The findings present a rich tapestry of perspectives, each thread representing a unique insight into the nuanced and complex world of sustainability awareness and engagement among HEI students. This research contribution not only enriches the ongoing discourse on sustainability education but also underscores the profound significance of comprehending the diverse viewpoints held by students—the potential torchbearers of a more sustainable future. Furthermore, it offers invaluable implications for the development of curricula, the formulation of policies, and the strategic planning of HEIs, all aimed at nurturing a vibrant culture of sustainability within their hallowed institutions.
