Abstract

This project is to design and fabricate a light switch flipper that targets people with busy lifestyles, as whenever people want to go to sleep, the act of waking up from a sleeping position may awaken them. The problem significantly impacts the well-being of people, and not only that, it also causes unnecessary electricity consumption. With this project, the act of switching off lights becomes effortless, requiring only a smartphone in hand, eliminating the need to move to operate the switches manually. In addition to that, the project is designed to eliminate the need for wiring as many smart light switches currently require this step, which has several health risks. The project involves the idea of sticking it onto the existing switch rather than rewiring it. The main components of the project feature Arduino UNO R3 as its microcontroller, IR receivers, servo motors, and bluetooth module in order to implement IoT features into the project. Hence, there are several ways to turn on the lights using it, using a remote controller or a phone connected to its Bluetooth range. The idea is that when given a signal, the servo motor will be turned to a specific position, hence closing or turning on the lights. There are different functions such as setting timers or a mode called “Away Mode” to mimic activities in house. Testingwas conducted to verify the functionality of all aspects of the prototype, and feedback was collected from multiple testers to assess its overall satisfaction and ease of use. The results shown have solved the problems stated in problem statement. Overall, all objectives have been achieved, and potential areas for future improvements have been thought of.
