Abstract

The adoption of AI tools in the workplace has garnered significant attention due to their potential to enhance productivity, decision-making, and overall work performance. However, the successful integration of these emerging technologies hinges on the willingness of working adults to adopt and effectively utilise them. This study investigates the key factors influencing the adoption of AI tools among working adults, drawing upon the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) 2 frameworks. This study adopted the quantitative approach to examine the roles of performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, habit, perceived risk, trust, and personal innovativeness in shaping the intention to adopt and the actual use of AI tools in the workplace. The research model is empirically tested using structural equation modelling and multiple regression analyses on data collected from a sample of 253 working adults across various industries. The findings reveal that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions, hedonic motivation, price value, habit, and trust significantly influence the intention to adopt AI tools among working adults. Furthermore, facilitating conditions, habits, and the intention to adopt AI tools are identified as direct predictors of the actual use of these tools. Interestingly, perceived risk does not emerge as a significant factor, contrasting with previous research in other technology domains. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge on AI tool adoption by providing empirical insights into the key determinants influencing working adults' acceptance and utilisation of these technologies. The findings have practical implications for organisations seeking to promote the successful adoption of AI tools, enabling them to develop targeted strategies and interventions that address the identified factors. By advancing our understanding of the factors shaping AI tool adoption in the workplace, this research paves the way for further exploration and facilitates the effective integration of these transformative technologies, ultimately enhancing productivity, efficiency, and innovation in various industries
