Abstract

The dissertation is to design and fabricate of a lifting device for patient. In Malaysia, care takers had to carry their disable patient when they are going toilet, switch to wheel chair and etcs. This lifting device is fabricated for better solution for the care takers as well as for the patients. The objective of this dissertation is to fabricate frames for lifting device by using hydraulic jack bottle. The lifting device will be test by SolidWorks and actual test with test subjects. Introduction, literature review and methodology had been done in the early of this dissertation. This includes preliminary designs where different ideas of designs were sketched on paper. The decision matrix had been used to select and finalised the preliminary design sketches. SolidWorks is being used to design finalized preliminary sketch design into proper scale. Different designs created using SolidWorks after the discussion had been made to further improve the device. Designs changes as searching for components and raw material is ongoing as some of the components or raw material can’t be obtain in normal hardware shop. The device consist of 3 main system which is the frame, hydraulic jack bottle and joints. Fabrication of frame will start first follow by joints and hydraulic jack bottle. The frame determines the strength of the device, the joints determines the flexibility of the device and finally the hydraulic jack bottle for lifting. Lastly, the device was completed according to the schedule and testing by using test subject had been done after all the system had been assembled. The objective is to lift up to 100kg person and different amount weight of test subjects had been tested. The overall of the device is around RM550 in total.
