Abstract

A novel nonplanar wing concept called C-Wing is studied based on the structure properties of the wing. Boeing 747-8 model of aircraft’s wing is used as a reference wing to evaluate the structure properties with a new design on the ‘C’ part. The comparison with the planar wing is done by using the same model of aircraft’s wing as reference. The materials used in both airfoils to determine the structure properties are titanium and aluminium. Results on the structure properties of both the airfoils and materials are the stress, strain and bending displacement acting on the entire airfoils. The Factor of Safety (FOS) for both airfoils and materials is also a concern in this research. Results suggest that the structure properties of the C-Wing are stronger than that of planar wing based on the maximum values of stress and strain results acting on both airfoils and the area of the maximum stress and strain acting on the airfoils surface. Since the maximum stress and strain affect the bending displacement and Factor of Safety (FOS) for both airfoils, consequently, the results for planar wing are not satisfactory compared to that of C-Wing.
