Abstract

Numerous researchers have identified work-life balance, remote work, employee communication, and recognition as crucial factors influencing employee satisfaction and performance. Employee satisfaction is vital for an organisation as it impacts success, productivity, and overall performance. Despite significant research, there is a noticeable gap in studies focusing on employee satisfaction and performance in the Malaysian private sector. This study aims to fill that gap by investigating the key factors that influence employee satisfaction in the Malaysian private sector. The conceptual framework of the research is based on the Spillover Theory, Self Efficacy Theory, and Social Exchange Theory. The study examines the direct relationships between work-life balance, remote work, employee communication, recognition, employee satisfaction, and employee performance. A sample of 322 responses was collected via an online self-administered survey, and the data was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). The findings support eight direct relationships: work-life balance, employee communication, recognition with employee performance, work-life balance, remote work, employee communication, and recognition with employee satisfaction, and employee satisfaction with employee performance. Furthermore, four mediated relationships are supported and one moderated relationship is not supported. These findings offer both academic and managerial insights for the private sectors in Malaysia. The research helps private sectors identify the factors that can improve employee satisfaction and performance, particularly after crises like the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, the study acknowledges limitations and provides recommendations for future research to enhance the understanding of employee satisfaction and employee performance further.
