Abstract

The purpose of this project was to develop a semi-automated peeler to improve the ease, safety, and effectiveness of peeling fruits, particularly apples. The peeler included essential features such as a safety cover to protect users from injury, portability, a clamping mechanism for stability, a multipurpose storage box, and core removal. The device was designed to minimise food waste, ensure consistent peeling quality, and reduce manual labour by automating the peeling process. The project involved designing, selecting materials, fabricating, and testing the device with the intention of developing a cost-effective and user-friendly solution suitable for small-scale food processing businesses as well as home kitchens.
