Abstract

The report explores the design and development of a rainwater-powered generator aimed at providing sustainable lighting solutions for rural areas during rainy days. The study emphasizes the importance of harnessing renewable energy sources, such as rainwater, to create an efficient and cost-effective system. Through a detailed literature review, the report assesses various turbine designs, including Francis turbine, Pelton turbine, and Kaplan turbine, highlighting their efficiency and suitability for this project. The methodology section outlines the systematic approach taken to design, prototype, and test the generator. Furthermore, the report discusses the potential societal impacts of implementing such a system, including improved safety and accessibility during adverse weather conditions. It also addresses environmental considerations and the ethical implications of using renewable energy technologies. The findings indicate that a well-designed rainwater turbine can help to promote sustainability and enhance the living quality of the users. The prototype is also tested to determine its performance. It can generate 1.2W of power output with 0.2479 litre of water flow into the turbine bucket per second. It successfully achieves its objectives, offering a cheap and effective alternative of power generation.
