Abstract

This project aims to design and fabricate a smart home system used to monitor, warn, and perform various functions according to the user. The system is monitored by using an Arduino based on the IoT system to control home appliances through a phone or automatically executed through the sensors. The traditional method of monitoring home appliances is manually through the switch; therefore, it is troublesome and there is a safety hazard of forgetting to turn off the power. In contrast, smart home systems offer significant benefits including energy efficiency, improved convenience, and personalized control of appliances. With this project, the act of controlling home appliances becomes effortless, requiring only a smartphone in hand, eliminating the need to move to operate the switches manually. The main components of the project feature Arduino UNO R4Wi-Fi as its microcontroller, ultrasonic sensor (HC-SR04), LDR sensors with MH-series and photocell, Temperature and Humidity sensor (DHT11), Motor Driver Module (L298N), DC Motor (N20), Micro Servo (SG90) and 3 yellow LEDs. Arduino UNO R4 Wi-Fi has its own Wi-Fi module and Bluetooth module. Hence, there is no need to connect to another module for IoT connection. There are several ways to control the light, fan and curtain in this project, manually control using a device or automatically depends on those sensors. The brightness of the lights, the speed of the fan, and the angle of curtain opening can be controlled and adjusted. Testing was conducted to verify the functionality of all aspects of the prototype. Feedback from multiple testers was gathered to assess overall satisfaction and ease of use. The results confirm that the identified problems from the problem statement have been effectively addressed. All objectives have been successfully achieved, and potential areas for future improvement have been identified for further refinement.
