Abstract
Improper engine oil maintenance increases environmental pollution and maintenance costs due to inefficiencies in diesel engines. However, users struggle to monitor the condition of engine oil and predict the optimal change intervals. Thus, this study investigates the effect of soot and fuel contamination, induced by exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) and post-injection timing for nitrogen oxide, NOx emission reduction, on the kinematic viscosity of diesel engine oil, and develops a predictive maintenance model to estimate its remaining useful life (RUL). The research objectives are to identify how soot and fuel contamination affect kinematic viscosity and to develop a Support Vector Regression (SVR) model for RUL prediction based on its kinematic viscosity. The effect of soot and fuel contamination under varying EGR and post-injection conditions were simulated and calculated by using DIESEL-RK and several mathematical models, and part of the results were selected as the training data set of SVRmodel. The SVRmodelwas trained to predictRULbased on kinematic viscosity changes, targeting at least 80% accuracy for known data with the tolerances of ±500
