Abstract

This research focuses on the optimization of a P/PI cascade controller to enhance disturbance rejection in a linear direct drive feed system used in milling applications. The study first modeled the linear feed drive system using transfer functions, incorporating system elements such as time delay, motor constant, and cutting force disturbance effects. Experimental data was collected through milling experiments, where cutting force disturbances were measured under different operating conditions: spindle speed of 2720 rpm and depths of cut at 0.6 mm, 1.0 mm, and 1.4 mm. These cutting forces, captured as time-series data and represented as "
