Abstract

Different type of cutting tool used could give different effect to performance of the cutting parameter, environment and the product. It is very important to study which will be the optimum cutter for particular material so that all the problem could be solved. The material that will be studied in this research is Mild Steel. Since mild steel is very commonly used in the manufacture industry, therefore, a research on how to get the optimum result for the best cutter is very important. Turning machine will be used for this experiment which it will be using three type of cutter C, K and T type cutter. Therefore, all the information regarding to its specification, function, limitation will be studied. The material will be observed by using microscope to look at the microstructure of the material after being cut. Where the surface roughness will be test by using surface roughness tester. The whole project will be done in dry condition with the judgment of tool life and surface roughness.
