Abstract

The car manufacturing industry has showed significant competitive nature where the necessity of improving product development has been implied in order to shorten the time-to –market as well as product development cost and quality at the same time. Therefore, computer-aided engineering tools are playing such a vital role in generating simulation-driven design for the car structural component to get rid of time-consuming prototype testing procedures. Hence, virtual durability testing using finite element analysis technique is important for engineers and analysts to learn that it will help them to simulate the desired load condition in a fast and accurate way. This*thesis investigates the current practice that implemented Finite Element Analysis (FEA) that focuses on stress and strain response as well as fatigue life estimation of car structural components in terms of review write-up. Thus, the*main subject of this thesis is using*FEA*to present a methodology on how to predict the accumulated damage as well as the fatigue life cycle prediction of a car component by conducting a durability analysis with Finite Element Modeling. In this context, the fatigue model will be based on crack initiation crack*initiation whereas the*crack growth*and*the crack*closures*are*performed under*spectrum or service*loadings.*
