Abstract
This project presents the design and fabrication of a hydraulic-assisted scissor jack for household and light-duty applications. Conventional scissor jacks require high manual effort, whereas hydraulic jacks are often bulky and less suitable for domestic use. Therefore, this study aims to develop a compact and user-friendly lifting device that reduces manual effort while maintaining portability. The proposed design integrates a short-stroke hydraulic cylinder with a scissor mechanism, along with rollers for mobility and a retractable handle to improve manoeuvrability. The design concept was selected using the Pugh decision matrix and modelled in AutoCAD. A prototype was fabricated using lightweight materials and tested under various load conditions. Experimental results show that the prototype can lift loads of up to 25 kg with stable and smooth operation. The hydraulic system significantly reduces manual effort compared to conventional scissor jacks. Although the load capacity is limited by the prototype materials, the results demonstrate the feasibility of the design. Future improvements include the use of stronger materials and optimisation of the hydraulic system for higher load applications
