Abstract
Manually wrapping method is slow, and inconsistent for HVAC pre-filters in local small and medium sized manufacturing, this project is designed and has successfully developed an affordable, semi-automated plastic film wrapping machine. Three conceptual mechanisms turntable, rotary arm, and rotary ring were evaluated, with the turntable design selected for its low structural complexity, cost effectiveness, and direct suitability for lightweight filter packaging. The mechanical assembly was modeled using SolidWorks software, while the embedded control system was built using an Arduino Uno R3 microcontroller integrated with an L298N motor driver, a geared DC motor, push buttons, and two LED for safety status layout. A fully functional prototype was successfully fabricated for a total structural component expenditure of RM 134.69. Operational testing successfully validated the proof of concept: upon activation, the system executes a protective blinking alert sequence and drives the motor at a speed rating of 160, rotating the turntable via a belt drive to wrap the filter load evenly from the bottom up. This semi-automated machine significantly enhances wrap consistency, minimizes physical labor fatigue, and reduces overall manufacturing costs, while directly supporting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 8, 9, and 12 by reducing plastic material waste and accelerating local industrial manufacturing automation
