Abstract

This project focuses on designing and conceptually developing an IoT-based fire detection and alert system that detects fires using a flame sensor. The goal of the project is to ultimately provide people with a cost-effective, reliable and user-friendly fire safety solution that detects fires at an early stage and alerts the users in real-time. This fire detection and alert system consists of different sensors (i.e., flame sensor, smoke sensor and temperature sensor), an ESP32 microcontroller to communicate with the sensors and enable wireless capabilities through Wi-Fi, real-time monitoring of sensor data, cloud analysis and storage of sensor data, and finally alerting the users and the authorities in real-time through a mobile app/notification. In-conjunction with existing fire detectors, this system aims to overcome various limitations of conventional fire detection detectors such as lost detection time, false alarms, and lack of remote accessibility. The conceptual design includes using extreme levels of sensitivity, interoperability (scalable), and accessibility, while also understanding the impacts of the design on society, health, safety, legal, cultural, environmental and ethical considerations. To conclude the project outlines the role of IoT technology strengthens and improves the effectiveness of fire detection systems, while lowering the damage to property and saving human life
