Abstract

This research examines how tool rake angle and spindle speed affect the surface finish of Uddeholm STAVAX ESR mould steel in negative rake ball nose end milling. Two tools, Tool 001 with −10◦ rake and Tool 002 with −1◦ rake, were tested at spindle speeds of 9,000, 11,000 and 13,000 rpm, with feed rate fixed at 3,000 mm/min, depth of cut at 0.08 mm and radial width of cut at 0.1 mm. Machining was performed on a Tongtai CT350 five–axis CNC under dry cutting, with each condition cutting 480 m. Surface roughness was evaluated mainly using the areal parameter
