Abstract

Power standing wheelchair is a well-known transport equipment nowadays for handicap persons which able to assist them from sitting posture to standing posture. However, most of the power standing wheelchair user has difficulty to move on the wheelchair or required helping hand from others. Besides, most of the power standing wheelchair consumes a lot of space which users find that the current power standing wheelchair is difficult to move around in narrow spaces. This is where the idea of a power-standing wheelchair with transfer assist comes from. The power standing wheelchair with transfer assist allows the user to move on to the wheelchair easily. Furthermore, in order to improve the safety of wheelchair user, a balancing feature is added into it which acts like a Segway to stabilize the wheelchair user. In this report, the design method and progress is studied using Solidworks and TRIZ method to generate concepts. Few designs will be conceptualised and do motion analysis and finite element analysis to do fine tuning of the design. The design dimensions of the wheelchair will be based on the anthropometric data to make sure the wheelchair is can be seated comfortably. PID will be implemented into the balancing system to ensure the motion is stable, smooth and precise. The result and analysis of this project will be done to determine the specification of DC motors needed to move the mechanisms using motion analysis. The finite element analysis is to ensure the parts are able to withstand the expected loads on the wheelchair. Lastly, the tuning of PID on the motion of changing the angle of seats will be done for the purpose of balancing.
