Abstract

I with my project with title "The Manufacturing Processes of the Steelmaking in a Company" is a case study project on the method of the steelmaking in a well establishes company. The company selected was Megasteel, a Malaysia steel market dominated company, under The Lion Group. The objectives of this project are to identify the current technology used, research and analyze the primary and secondary steelmaking process in Megasteel. In this project, the equipment for the primary and secondary steelmaking as well as the automation system used in the company will discuss. In the primary steelmaking, the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) had used, whereby the ladle furnace (LF) had used for the secondary steelmaking. EAF process consists of three stages, which is charging, melting and refining. While, for the secondary steelmaking process, the main mission is to maintain the heat after the EAF process and alloying the molten steel to meet the requirement of the various steel grades. Detail researches and discussion on the steelmaking process and analysis will be brought out by this project, such as the raw material used and the layering method of its during charging, energy form used in the melting stage, alloying element and composition of the various steel grades at the refining period, the further adjustment with high accuracy of the alloying element for the steel during the ladle refining process. Finally some common problems met by the company also will be discussed. The common problems included are the operator mistake during layering at charging stage, cave-ins of the scrap during melting, unmelted scrap and also the fluctuation of the scrap price. In order to minimize the problem as mentioned above, Megasteel had assigned engineer to guide and lead the operator at the ground floor. Any problems happen must be report to engineer and they will take corrective action to solve the problem. Low productivity in meltshop will penalized by decrease the extra bonus for the employees.
