Abstract
In this thesis is about the stress analysis and design on the characteristic of gear differential. These include the contact stress of the gear differential and how to improve the gear differential by reducing the contact stress within the gear teeth. Gearing is an important component in mechanical power transmission systems. To estimate and analyze the contact stress of the gear differential, Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is used to examine through 3D FEA model. To investigate the stress contact point between the gears, the relationship of the thickness of gear teeth and the number of gear teeth can be considered. This can be achieved by using SOLIDWORK application to draw the gear differential and import it into ANSYS Finite Element Analysis to analyze the stress occurs between the gears. The results of the 3D FEA analysis from ANSYS are presented. These results are then collected in a table form and are plotted to into a graph to show the changes of the results when the parameters changed accordingly. Besides that, different designs and modifications of parameters are considered in this thesis in order to improve the gear by reducing the maximum stress on it.
