Abstract

Most of the 3D food printers that available on the market are designed in Cartesian. However, these printers shared the common disadvantage, such as extra aluminium profiles, high design complexity, heavier, costly and low accuracy. The main objective for this project was to build a higher accuracy 3D food printer that can be built easily. Therefore, a Delta Design was chosen compared to Cartesian Design because the design complexity was lower while providing better accuracy. There are 2 main research methodologies involved in this project. First, was the involvement of the Solidworks Design. It was used to design the components that are going to be used to fabricate the 3D food printer, such as top and bottom base, steel rod holder, bearing holder, limit switch holder, cartridge holder, effector, and motor mount. Next will be fabrication process. Under this methodology, technical knowledge and skills such as drilling, filling, used of machineries were required. Besides, conceptual knowledge for both Mechanical, Electric and Electronic Engineering were required throughout the project. As for the results, the 3D food printer had been designed and fabricated. Several Tests has been carried out to ensure the printer achieves the objectives. Chocolate was used as the printing materials. After several adjustment, a 3D rectangle shape was printed using chocolate. There were minor problems encountered during the design and fabrication stage, such as chocolate handling and insufficient knowledge and technical skills. For conclusion, the objectives were achieved and some recommendations were proposed, such as introducing metal syringe and implementation of Medium Density Fibreboard (MDF) as the material for top base.
