Abstract

Nowadays, a typical RC car is controlled by radio frequency controller but it is still unable to resemble the control pattern of a driver who uses steering to change the direction of the car. The idea of this project to develop a mobile robot that can be controlled by an Android based mobile device via Android application wirelessly. Furthermore the controlling of the mobile robot resembles the control pattern of a driver who uses the steering to alter the direction of the car. The research methodology of this project can be divided in hardware part and software part. For the hardware part, it is related to the construction of an electronic circuit and a mobile robot which consists of a DC motor and a servo motor. For the software part, an Android application was developed to be installed in Android based mobile device to utilize the features of the built-in accelerometer and to send control signals to the mobile robot wirelessly. Besides, a PIC microcontroller program was developed to convert the control signals received to the relevant motion of the mobile robot. Various tests had been conducted to determine the performance of the mobile unit and Bluetooth connectivity. All the objectives have been achieved and the results obtained were satisfying. The mobile robot can be controlled wirelessly using Bluetooth technology. An Android based mobile device is used as the remote controller to control the mobile robot which is able to move like a typical RC car via the developed Android application. For future development, there are some improvements can be made by implementing sensors or camera on the mobile robot in future.
