Abstract

In this high technology civilization, power supply is the main concern at all times. Ensuring a consistent, efficient and environmental friendly output of power is the objective of most available power system now. Engineers have started all their research to generate power using various energy sources that can be converted into power. Especially renewable energy such as wind, water, fossil fuel, bio fuel and solar. However, the power systems that is available now are facing a critical issue mainly because the demand of power has increased rapidly with an expectation to reach triple in 2035 and efficiency of the power system has drop. Hence, in this research, a set of wind and solar index data from the Meteorological Department and Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) is obtained and is used to perform analysis to determine a simple, cheap, efficient and suitable method to optimize solar and wind to generate hybrid power system to be use in Malaysia. It is done by analyzing the data using a suitable software. All analysis is done by Power System Analysis Toolbox (PSAT). PSAT is a MatLab toolbox for electric power system analysis and simulation. The command line version of PSAT is also GNU Octave compatible. All operations can be assessed by means of graphical user interfaces (GUIs) and a Simulink-based library provides a user-friendly tool for network design. The problem faced by existing hybrid power system is the quality and amount of energy that it can generate. Optimization of the hybrid power system design a good way to solve the problem currently faced. The efficiency of the hybrid power system is higher than the existing systems based on the amount of power generated.
