Abstract

The globalization of construction markets has allowed and gave opportunity to lots of contractors to participate in the international construction. Due to the globalization of constructions industry, international construction has grow rapidly in the past few years and many Malaysian contractors has been ventured into the international construction. Up to date Malaysian contractors have been recognized and given the opportunity to carry out the international construction in overseas. The international construction is a new concept for Malaysian contractor to explore their potential as international construction is much riskier than the risk in the local domestic construction. Therefore, this study is undertaken to review the Malaysian contractors who ventured into the international construction. This study are discussing regarding the factors influencing Malaysian contractor to venture into international construction, challenges that they faced in international construction and benefits they gain from the venturing into international construction. The methodology adapted for this study includes interview with the company which has a vast background and involvement in international project. Interviews are used as the primary source to gather relevant information in order to get accurate and satisfactory result on the objectives of this study. The result of this study has identified there are few main factors such as stagnant in domestic market, challenges such as legal and contractual challenges, and benefits such as monetary benefits which Malaysian contractor shall faced in the international construction. So, Malaysia contractor should prepare themselves properly in order to be successful in the international construction field.
