Abstract

This research is to study on the development of Chinese music industry in Malaysia in terms of popularity and challenges, which are the reason that affected the development of Chinese music industry and the strategies which improve the development of this industry. The current phenomena of local music industry were in the pace of behind compare to the international music, there is a lot of reasons to cause this situation happen such as the variety of channel to reached public that causes the traditional way of music industry has been obsolete and people are distracted to search for more choices instead of stick to the selection of local music, moreover artist itself should find out the problem in order to improve the quality of music and reputation of themselves. Therefore, the purpose of this research is to study a few aspects that cause the “off-track” local music industry especially in Chinese music. For instance, music artist, quality and lyrics, fund and investment by particular organisation and the rules and regulation which dominated by the government. Furthermore, the qualitative method which is the in depth interview from the professional in this industry is used to conduct this research, their experience and point of view towards this industry. The outcome of the interviewees showed that the artist itself have more sided on the negative perception towards the scenario of current music industry. Hence, the result has reached the objectives of this study which there has reason that causes the off pace of Malaysia Chinese music industry among the current worldwide music.
