Abstract

Time, cost and quality are the major crucial in a construction process. Construction industry is one of the main drivers that provide great support to aggregate the developed for the Malaysian economy. Furthermore, once the delay arises, it will influence not only for clients, but construction parties also will be influenced. Construction delays are one of the great issues faced in the construction industries, it will diametrically influence the contract involved parties, leads to time and cost overruns, litigation and delay in hand over the project to client. Hence, for the purpose to minimize and avoid the construction delay issues, it is crucial to identify the causes of the project delay. This study is aim to identify the significant causes of delay, impacts of delays and ways to minimize delay. Literature review and questionnaire survey was carried out in this study. A total of six groups and thirty factors that resulting in the causes of delays, five statements of the impact of the delay and ten measure of minimizing construction delays were identified. Other than that, the questionnaires survey were conduct in Selangor state and Kuala Lumpur only. The received data will further describe by using Microsoft Excel to determine the major causes that contributed to a delay in construction project in order to interpret and discuss then discover the reliability and accuracy of the hypothesis.
