Abstract

Surface Mount Technology is the key technology in semiconductor industries. For efficient manufacturing process and monitoring, the integration of communication protocol is essential. The communication protocol used is the Semiconductor Equipment Communication Standard that is introduced and verified by the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International. The Generic Equipment Model is the generic model for the behaviour of equipment and communication by using different message types. There are two types of communication protocol standards which is the SECS I and SECS II. SECS I is used to establish communication link and SECS II refers to the content message of the communication. These standards have been adopted worldwide as they are helpful when the communication link is established between host and equipment. Besides communication, collecting and monitoring data of the equipment from a remote distance is also crucial to the semiconductor industry. Therefore, these actions can be achieved when further development and study of the communication protocol. In this work, the main purpose is to understand and develop an application using the Semiconductor Equipment Communication and the Generic Equipment Model communication protocols to one of the common machines used in the Surface Mount Technology, which in this case the Reflow Oven.
