Abstract

Renewable energy such as sunlight, win and water often use in electricity generation, transportation, heating and cooling. Government nowadays aims to expand the electricity generation towards renewable energy as conventional electricity generation is polluting the earth as well as facing the insufficient of resources. Photovoltaic (PV) power system is the most popular renewable energy in Malaysia. From the previous works, it is found out that PV system can be easily constructed by using MATLAB Simulink. Besides, few topologies of boost converter are proposed. Double cascade boost converter is having the highest efficiency among all the proposed topologies. Lastly, there are several proposed algorithms to overcome the drawbacks of conventional P&O algorithm which is the oscillations around the steady state. In this project, a fuzzy logic MPPT algorithm is proposed. It is found out that fuzzy logic MPPT is having the highest efficiency among three algorithms which include P&O algorithm and IC algorithm. Besides, it is also found out that the oscillations around steady state for these three algorithms are the same. However, this might due to the inexperience and immature design of the membership functions and rule-base table of fuzzy logic controller. With proposed method, the efficiency of PV system is improved.
