Abstract

In recent years, the occurrence of occupational accidents has increased rapidly. Forklift accident would be one of the most fatal cases among occupational accidents. Although forklift accident seldom happening, it still drawn most of the attention from the industry operator to do further precaution to prevent it from happening. UWB-based proximity sensing device is proposed to be installed on forklift or been taken by pedestrian personnel to prevent collision either between two forklift or between forklift and pedestrian workers. Proximity sensing device with UWB-based possesses the characteristics of high accuracy and fast response would enhance the safety of pedestrian and forklift driver. In this research, many experiments have been done to clarify how accuracy the UWB technology can be achieved so that it can be used in proximity sensing application. By referring to the experiment results stated in Chapter 4, comparison is made between the actual distance (theoretical measurements) and the estimated distance (measurements collected by using UWB technology), not much different is between the theoretical and measured distance. UWB technology is highly accurate when it comes to distance detection. It is applicable and relevant to be used in future application such that in the warehouse to prevent collision between forklifts. UWB technology possess high accuracy and fast response characteristic that allows one human or vehicle to detect the incoming vehicles immediately and accurately. Undoubtedly, this can reduce the accidents happened in one place effectively.
