Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention include a project of determining the location of an object. This main proposes of implementing this project is to help the blind person or people with bad eyesight to locate the position of an item in his residence such as table fan, electric cooker or air-conditioner switch. In this project, the blind person needs only use his mobile phone to key in the code for the item and a miniature speaker placed beside the item will immediately call out the name of the item so that the blind person can walk to the spot where the object is kept. This project uses a Double Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) integrated circuit to generate 12 different audio tones. The combination of any two audio tones (say tone 1 and tone 2) represents one item such as fan remote control. The combination of another two audio tones (say tone 1 and tone 4) represents another item such as cooker. Since a combination of two tones is used to represent one item, 12 different tones will allow 144 items to be represented. The audio tones, upon being amplified, is sent to a loudspeaker for transmission through the air to the receiver. A sensitive microphone on the receiver (placed at the proximity of the loudspeaker) captures the audio tones. And after amplification, the audio tones are sent to a tone decoder to recover the name of the item. Finally the name of the item is sent to a small loudspeaker mounted near the item being searched so as to alert the blind person. To sum up, this project will help the blind find the item they want quickly allowing them to go about their daily life without the need to have someone constantly assist them.
