Abstract

The rapid and continuous growth of internet and technologies has changed the media landscape. A lot of new generations tend to easily obtain news and information through social network site. This study aims to find news consumption pattern of young Chinese adult complete tendency traditional media official Facebook pages and also the credibility of the news they publish. More than third quarter young Chinese adult in this research always or frequently visit Facebook but the major reason is want to see what their family and friends is upload on Facebook. Most of them obtain news from Facebook are they have follow the page of the media organization and the news shared by their friend or family. The topic of the young Chinese adults most interested on Facebook are government and politics. Young Chinese adult who have done in the research will read the news on China Press and Sin Chew Daily Facebook pages is because headline and plain text. The finding also shows young Chinese adult in Klang Valley relying on the Facebook as an important news source but they also not detached from printed newspapers. That is because they still obtain news from traditional media pages and alternative websites. The result has shown young Chinese adults were like and sharing the news on Facebook but they reluctant to discuss and comment the news on the Facebook. The young Chinese adult have perceive the Facebook news sources and news contents as relatively credible. The media theory dependency have applied where the media has played an important role in modern societies are dependent on media in their economic, political and other institutions because media is an easier way to provide them useful information.
