Abstract

This research examines the portrayal of women in film in Malaysian society. The aim of this thesis is to determine how the selected films have affected the audience’s perspective on women. As not many Malaysians are concerned or familiar with the female characterization or gender roles in films generally, it is important to bring some attention to this matter. Through some research it was found that there is a lack of feminism in societal movement not only in Malaysia but also around the world since a long time coming. Other than that, the theories Feminist Theory and Social Role Theory aid in analyzing the portrayal of women among respondents.
