Abstract
The aim of this study was to observe the effect of 6-week short resting interval plyometric training and weight training on VO2max and body fat percentage among physically active college student. A total of 30 active male students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College with mean age of 19.11±1.23 years old were recruited in this study. The participants were randomly assigned into three groups, plyometric training(PT) group(n=11) that involved plyometric exercise; the weight-training(WT) group(n=9) that involved lifting weight exercise; and the control group(CG)(n=10) that does not involve any training. The analysis of the results were done using the paired sample t-test and one-way ANOVA. The aerobic endurance and body composition was tested before and after the 6-week training. Both experimental group that participated in the 6-week training programme showed significant improvement in aerobic endurance in post-test compared to pre-test mean score, PT(p=.003) and WT(p=.007). The PT group shows significant difference in aerobic endurance compared to control group(p=.008). There was no significant difference were found among the three groups in terms of body fat percentage(p=.506). There was no significant difference were found among the three groups in terms of muscle mass(p=.439). Thus, the 6-week plyometric training and weight-training, using short rest interval, significant improved aerobic endurance in physically active college student. However, food intake should take into consideration for more valid body composition results in future studies.
