Abstract

Open Day is when a university open its door to let people visit and talk to academic staff to discover more about their programmes of interest. It is a very important day to help students to decide on what and where they would like to study. However, there are some common problems in Open Day which can be a hindrance to the students. For example, limited academic staff to handle the visitors, visitors getting lost and not knowing where to get their enquiries. The solution to the problems is to set up an interactive wayfinding digital signage during Open Day which can display a directory map. The interactive directory map can simulate a virtual environment with pathways and building. It allow the visitors to have a more realistic view of the campus so that they can find out the location of the place that they want to go. Furthermore, the interactive digital signage incorporate a wayfinding ability which will significantly enhances the visitors’ experience. With the wayfinding ability, directions and paths are automatically generated once a destination is selected which can greatly help in navigation. The methodology used for the system is Prototyping Model which allow quick development and demonstration of the feasibility and usefulness of the system. The system is developed individually using Unity3D game engine, and the scripts are written in C# programming language using Microsoft Visual Studio.
