Abstract

Abstract PlantsWar is a top-down multiplayer action shooting game featuring Augmented Reality. The game are developed for mobile phones that support camera features and runs Android OS. Player will need to shoot colourful water pebble to drown other plants to gain score. The gameplay happen within the target marker, player will need to hold their device and constantly point the camera on the paper marker. Aside from providing fun experience to players, the game also aimed to educated players regarding some plant’s term together with little basic knowledge about it. Especially for young players which are more drawn to AR, this technology motivates and encourages children’s unexplored brains to expand when learning and playing the game. Not to mentioned that it also make used of its AR ability to aim by tilting phone instead of using UI in the game. Besides that, the game also fulfil the lack of similar type of game in the current market, those element included plants game with PVP gameplay, and also top down view shooting game featuring AR. The project was done using Unity game engine together with Vuforia API. Vuforia is an excellent tools when it comes to marker tracking ability, and the game makes used of its strength to create a marker based AR games that allow player to aim using their phone instead of the UI of the game. I have also coded my own server of the multiplayer part for maximum controllability purposes, it was done using TCP and UDP socketing. The game although playable, it still have rooms of improvement regarding the interactivity of AR component. In future, I hope to further improve the game by adding more AR interaction such as obstacles based on marker placement on the map and also path finding movement according to the position of the player marker.
